The Public Health Club, a student-led organization dedicated to supporting students pursuing careers in healthcare and public health, under the advisement of faculty members Christina Winters and Nick Lionetti, recently welcomed Juliette Bannister from the Sussex County Board of Health for an engaging and informative presentation on the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).

The event provided students with valuable insight into the wide range of opportunities available through the MRC, as well as its important role in supporting community health and emergency response efforts.

During the presentation, Bannister highlighted the MRC’s long-standing history of service, including its involvement in major public health responses such as the September 11th recovery efforts and the COVID-19 pandemic. Students learned how MRC volunteers contribute to keeping communities safe through ongoing training, certifications, and hands-on public health initiatives.

The event was well received by attendees and reflects the vision of the Public Health Club, and their student leader, President Leah DiGiorgio.  She reflected, “Juliette put on an amazing presentation about the Medical Reserve Corps. We learned about the many opportunities within the MRC and its incredible history of helping the public during events like 9/11 and COVID-19. It was inspiring to see how their training, experience, and dedication contribute to keeping communities safe.”

Attendees also gained a clearer understanding of how to get involved. Bannister generously shared resources, including informational flyers and complimentary COVID-19 and flu test kits, and took time to answer questions. She offered guidance to students interested in joining the MRC, including support through the application and onboarding process.

Advisor Christina Winters states, "The club's continuous commitment to connecting students with real-world public health opportunities, supporting career exploration, and cultivating a collaborative environment for aspiring healthcare professionals is commendable. I am honored to be part of such a dedicated group of students."
