The 35th annual juried art show at Sussex County Community College is being held this year, and students are displaying their best work to showcase their skills.

SCCC has had a juried art show since 1991, according to Professor Janet Cunnife-Cheiffo, who is one of the art professors at the college.

This year is the second year that the art show will be held in the newly renovated Atrium Gallery space. According to the professor, each year the juried art show gets more prestigious.

The artwork is submitted digitally to be juried by college faculty members in the Visual and Performing Arts Department. This year’s show was displayed to seven faculty members, who juried more than 80 student entries.

According to Cunnife-Cheiffo, the exhibition is meant to display the highest quality of the work done by art students. What is accepted is determined by the quality and skill of each student.

The theme of this show is to bring the arts community at SCCC together. It celebrates the students and their individuality, as well as the togetherness that art brings to the world, as well as to the school.

Cunnife-Cheiffo states that in the art world, and applying it to this exhibition, the sky is the limit. She says that, at SCCC, professors teach the basic foundations.

This show celebrates artistic expression and the visions of each of the students. Art is made by the artist, and therefore, there is no correct or incorrect way to create.

The professor has said, “Art has different purposes for different people. Art can be therapeutic, emotional, political, narrative, and more.”

The professor also said she believes that academically trained artists perform best at bringing their artistic visions to life. Here are some images of the students with their artwork.
