At the beginning of the fall semester and in the month of September, Sussex County Community College in Newton announced its participation in the Feed the Future: Fight Student Hunger campaign.
SCCC President Dr. Cory Homer presents this campaign as something that “Embodies the compassion and collaboration that defines SCCC.”
This campaign consists of helping with the college's current on-campus food pantry and nutrition-based programs. This is SCCC’s first time participating with statewide combat to fight food insecurity.
“I love going to the food pantry,” says Manny Rodriguez, a Liberal Arts student attending SCCC. “If I’m running late in the morning, I stop by and grab a Pop-Tarts or instant oatmeal.”
Its team consists of Ann Bruno, Jamie Borger, Stan Kula, and Kathy Peterson, a wonderful team that takes pride in what it does for SCCC.
When asked about Homer’s reaction to the campaign, his response was full of pride and prestige.
“At Sussex County Community College, we believe that no student and no family should ever have to choose between their education and their next meal,” he said. “The Feed the Hunger campaign embodies the compassion and collaboration that define SCCC, and we are proud to stand with our community in the fight against food insecurity.”
SCCC receives donations directly from its website. Through the course of the 2025 Fall semester, several thousand dollars have been collected.
This campaign is currently still running; there is no end date. Donations are still being received through the website http://spot.fund/93qqfm3sc or by going directly to the New Jersey Council of County Colleges and searching in the browser for Sussex County Community College.
